World Statistics Day in Iraq
On the occasion of World Statistics Day – 2025, the Sard Organization for Society Support (SOSS), in coordination with Paytakht Technical Institute in Erbil, held a distinguished scientific event on Monday, October 20, 2025. The event was attended by Mr. Falah Hassan, Head of the Non-Governmental Organizations Department, and Mr. Sirwan Muhammad Mohiuddin, representative of the Ministry of Planning and Head of the Statistics Authority in the Kurdistan Region.
The event was successfully organized by a joint team from the organization and the institute, aiming to highlight the importance of statistics and its vital role in society. It witnessed wide participation from university professors, academics, experts, and those interested in data science and statistics. The event featured a rich discussion platform, including two scientific panels:
- “The Power and Impact of Statistics in Society”
- “The Future of Statistics with Data Science and Artificial Intelligence”
The panels focused on the central role of data and statistics in planning, informed decision-making, and the development of artificial intelligence. Key topics discussed included:
- How statistics serves as the backbone of artificial intelligence and the primary source of data for training algorithms and making predictions.
- The role of artificial intelligence in analyzing vast amounts of statistical data quickly and accurately, opening new avenues for research and discovery.
- How the integration of statistics and artificial intelligence creates a qualitative leap in supporting future planning and evidence-based decision-making using reliable data.
Through this distinguished event, Sard Organization for Society Support (SOSS) reaffirmed its active role in building bridges between state institutions, research centers, academia, and civil society, striving through science, knowledge, and constructive collaboration to support development and serve the public good.
In recognition of this effort, SOSS shared the event on the United Nations Statistics Division website, highlighting Iraq’s participation in World Statistics Day 2025: UN WSD 2025 – Iraq .
