In June 2014, Iraq experienced its largest displacement in history due to the Islamic State Group (ISIS) taking control of vast northern and western regions, displacing 6.12 million people by 2021. While 4.9 million (12% of the population) returned to their areas of origin (AoO), 1.2 million (3% of the population) remained internally displaced (IDPs), primarily in camps and host communities. Most IDPs originated from Nineveh (70.9%), Salahaddin (14.8%), and Anbar (14.3%). Geneva Call commissioned a study on IDP safe return and reintegration, conducted by SOSS and GC experts in Anbar, Nineveh, and Salahaddin from October to December 2021, gathering data from IDPs and community members in these regions.

Data was collected from eligible voters for this parliamentary election. Based on a statistical formula applied to the population size of 2,899,578 voters, with a 2% margin of error, 2,236 voters participated in the survey through online platforms and face-to-face interviews using the KoboToolbox platform. The data analysis employed a descriptive methodology to interpret participants’ responses, ensuring accurate and meaningful conclusions for the concerned stakeholders.
