Successful Completion of a Comprehensive Socio-Economic Survey for an Oil and Gas Company in Duhok Governorate
The Sard Organization for Society Support (SOSS) has successfully completed a comprehensive Socio-Economic Survey (SES) for an oil and gas company located in Duhok governorate. This study assessed the living conditions of households using field surveys, focus group discussions, and key informant interviews. It offers in-depth insights into demographic trends, economic activities, education, healthcare, agriculture, environment, transportation, and tourism in the region.
Duhok Governorate stands out with the largest average household size in the Kurdistan Region, reflecting its distinctive social structure. The population is predominantly young, with children making up about one-third and a majority belonging to the working-age group. The SES identified several pressing challenges, including high unemployment rates—particularly among youth and women—as well as gaps in healthcare and education services, and limited economic diversification.
As a key outcome, the study presents a detailed Five-Year Community Development Plan (CDP) outlining practical Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives aimed at improving quality of life, generating employment, and strengthening local resilience. SOSS remains committed to supporting sustainable development in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq through rigorous research, community engagement, and strategic partnerships.
